Kathleen Casteel

 Kathleen Casteel, (b.1953) American artist has been painting the Northwest landscape for several decades.  Her paintings of rivers, water, trees, landforms, mountains, cultivated fields, and remote areas depict the widely varied and diverse regions of the Pacific Northwest. 

A Missouri native, she has a BFA from Southwest Missouri State University and MFA in Studio Painting and Drawing from Louisiana State University.  Prior to moving to Walla Walla, she taught Painting and Drawing at Green River Community College for 23years. 

Casteel’s paintings contain a sense of immediacy, yet meditative, emotive color, and expressive brushstroke. Her work can be found in the collections of Pierce County, Port of Tacoma, Tacoma, WA; Threshold Group, Gig Harbor, WA; Jundt Art Museum, Gonzaga University, Spokane, WA; and other private collections.  Her paintings have been included in major regional exhibits including Environmental Art Exhibit, Pierce College, 2009; Myth, Current Events, and Environmental Issues, Tacoma Art Museum, 2004; and Close In: 1st Inland Northwest Juried Landscape Art Exhibition, 2018, Jundt Art Museum, Spokane, WA.  

Active in the arts community, as an educator and an advocate for the arts.  She participated as an artist in schools’ program and served as past president and education coordinator for Columbia Art League, Columbia. MO.  She currently works in her home studio and is a member of Walla Walla Art Club, ArtWalla and Combine Art Collective.
