Laura Gable
Award-winning artist enjoys painting the varied terrain of eastern Washington where she resides—from the undulating shrub-steppe hillsides to the dramatic basalt-lined coulee canyons nearby. Living in a prominent wine growing region, she finds inspiration in the changing colors and patterns of the vineyards. These juxtaposed by the changing colors of sagebrush and Chamisa, the character of the nearby rivers, plus the dramatic cloud laden skies all provide many nuances for her paintings.
Laura was born and raised in rural Nebraska and spent a great deal of time enjoying the outdoors. Her family took extensive winter vacations to the warm southwest where she enjoyed exploring the landscape in numerous national parks. This was always a highlight of the year and a fun family time. She attended Chadron State College in Nebraska earning degrees in accounting, and Art; and later studied graphic design at Platt College in Aurora, Colorado. She followed these practical career paths for many years until 2001, when her work naturally evolved into teaching and creating art as a profession. Throughout this time, she trained with prominent artists, including Jill Carver, Kenn Bacchus, Aimee Erickson, Deanne Lemley, Jim Lamb, Ruth Stromswold and Jan Kunz. She now resides in Kennewick, Washington where she focuses on painting and occasionally instruction.
