Shelia Coe
I do ceramic sculpture and hand building. I love handling the clay, the engineering it takes to make an object, usually an animal, turn out the way I want and sometimes the surprise when the clay decides to do something else. It can be like carving and freeing a shape that you didn’t know was already there.
There is no social or political agenda driving me. I have no desire to shock or titillate the viewer. My joy comes from loving nature: both animals and plants. I attempt to capture the characteristics of either in a gentle, and often humorous way, to create pleasure for the observer.
