Sophia Cook

Sophia is a ceramicist and sculptress based in Medford, Oregon. After completing a Bachelor of Arts degree focusing on ceramics in 2019 from Walla Walla University, Sophia immediately began building a fully equipped studio and continued to hone her craft. Her work encompasses, not only functional ceramics, but contemplative minimalist sculpture. 

Sophia was trained in the classical method of drawing by her father which has become a valued skill in the creation of her designs. These foundational skills have enabled her to delve into the kinesthetic features of artistry. 

Striking a balance between fine art and design, Sophia’s work fuses her inclination towards geometry and tension with an appreciative nod toward minimalism. She draws on historical influences, as well as her strong design background to create a visual and tactile intimacy. The result is a collection of objects engaging the beholder through a distinct aesthetic.
